Mark is out of town, so no picture of my outfit. The highlight of my outfit was my tights–they were black with taupe polka dots! Lovely!
The day, as my subject suggests, was amazing. Mark and I were getting good news left and right. On Mark’s end, he is teaching one more class than last term, which means that since he is adjunct he gets more money! Hurray!!!! He also has an interview for a position to help launch a public-access television station through the college, which is an amazing opportunity for him and the students in his program. Keep your fingers crossed; he interviews tomorrow! That coupled with the tons of freelance work he has received recently, has made it a very successful new year for Mark professionally!
On my end, I found out that I was accepted into Emerge New Mexico, a political leadership training program. Its intent is to help women get into political positions in their state and beyond. With the help of this program, I hope to be able to run for a school board position in the next couple years. I am very excited about this opportunity! Second, I found out that I get to interview with Teach for America for a summer position at the TFA training institute (or as corps members fondly call it, Institute). I am especially excited because I applied for a more specialized position, Literacy Specialists. If I get it, I will be able to work with upcoming teachers, showing them how to integrate literacy skills into their classroom. Also, my location request, Phoenix, was accepted. I wanted to work there, as opposed to the institute I attended (Atlanta), because it is where the New Mexico TFAers go, and I want to be as active as possible with TFA New Mexico. Training new corps members would be an excellent way to contribute! If I get this position, it will also count towards my internship credit from my PhD program….score!
To celebrate, I headed out to shop…I am on a mission to find a pair of flat black boots—80’s-esque, pointy toe, slightly slouchy. Kind of like these:
I had no luck, but I scored 2 other pairs of boots– Brown J Crew boots from Savers, and a black pair of motorcycle-ish boots from Buffalo Exchange. Huzzah.
The only black spot in my day was reading over some student papers and discovering a student copied a biography on TuPac from a website. Teachers have it so easy these days with the internet. If a paper sounds suspiciously…advanced…I type in a sentence on my google bar….boom. Cheater caught.
